Fans were buzzing after Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were noticeably missing from the 2025 Met Gala, leaving many wondering why the high-profile couple skipped fashion’s biggest night.
The star-studded event, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” took place recently in New York City, but Swift and Kelce were nowhere to be seen—even though sources say they were both invited.
Busy Schedules Got in the Way
According to insiders, the couple had to bow out due to packed work schedules. Swift has been keeping a low profile lately and hasn’t been spotted in public for several weeks. Kelce, on the other hand, was in New York just days before the gala for a photo shoot and also took a quick trip to Las Vegas with friends, including NFL teammate Patrick Mahomes and singer Justin Timberlake.
These back-to-back commitments likely made it tough to carve out time for the gala.
Swift’s Long Met Gala History
Taylor Swift is no stranger to the Met Gala. She last attended in 2016 as a co-host, turning heads in a futuristic silver Louis Vuitton mini dress that matched the “Manus x Machina” theme. She’s been to the gala six times before, often wearing major designers like Oscar de la Renta and Ralph Lauren.
However, it’s been years since she’s walked a red carpet with a partner—her last time was in 2008 with Joe Jonas at the MTV VMAs.
Kelce Is No Stranger to the Spotlight
Since going public with Swift in summer 2023, Travis Kelce has become a regular on the celebrity scene. The couple has been spotted everywhere from Coachella to the Super Bowl and, of course, during Swift’s Eras Tour.
Still, they’ve yet to make their official red carpet debut together—a move that keeps their relationship relatively private despite their fame.
A Well-Deserved Break for Swift
After wrapping up her wildly successful Eras Tour in December, Swift has been enjoying some much-needed downtime. She did make a splash at the 2025 Grammy Awards in February, stunning in a red Vivienne Westwood gown and subtly honoring Kelce with a ruby “T” leg chain.
Right now, it seems both stars are focused on work and personal downtime, keeping major public appearances—like the Met Gala—on the back burner for now.
