After nearly 30 years of waking up before dawn to greet America on Fox & Friends, longtime co-host Steve Doocy is making a heartfelt shift in his role at Fox News. He’s not retiring—but he is stepping away from the early morning grind in New York City.

In an emotional on-air announcement alongside co-hosts Ainsley Earhardt and Brian Kilmeade, Doocy shared that he’ll no longer appear daily on the iconic NYC studio couch. Instead, he’s embracing a new title: “coast-to-coast host.” He’ll continue contributing to Fox & Friends, but now remotely, reporting from across the country—often from his new base in Florida.

With his signature mix of humor and sincerity, Doocy kicked off the announcement with a loving nod to his wife:

“For the last 30 years, when my alarm clock goes off at 3:30, if it wakes up my wife Kathy, she always says, ‘It’s time to make the donuts.’ And I say, ‘You’re right.’
That, ladies and gentlemen, is a lot of donuts.”

He grinned and added, “It’s a great job—but the hours suck.”

From Studio Lights to Sunshine

Going forward, Doocy will work three days a week from Florida—bringing stories and segments from across the country. He joked that his new schedule is like the “Johnny Carson deal,” a nod to the legendary late-night host who eventually scaled back to a lighter workweek.

“Call me the coast-to-coast host,” he said.

The move isn’t just about geography—it’s about shifting priorities. Reporting from Florida will allow Doocy to cover stories from underrepresented parts of the country, while also giving him something he’s long missed: quality time with family.

“When my kids were growing up, I never had breakfast with them. I was always here. Kathy did everything,” he said, voice cracking slightly.
“But starting tomorrow, I’m going to have breakfast with my grandkids and my children whenever I can.”

Family First

The Doocys will soon head to Washington, D.C., to visit their son Peter (a Fox News correspondent), daughter-in-law Hillary Vaughn, and new grandson George. They’ll also spend time with their 2-year-old granddaughter Bridget.

Next stop: Dallas, to see their daughter Sally, grandson Arthur, and a new baby on the way. More family time is planned with their daughter Mary, her husband Marshall, and their dog, Peanut.

Doocy made sure fans knew: he’s not going anywhere.

“I’m not retiring. I’m not leaving the show. I’m still a host—just in a new way.”

He’ll continue appearing regularly on Fox & Friends via live remote, offering special reports and features from the road—all with the same charm viewers have loved for decades.

“After a little vacation, I’ll be back via the magic of television,” he said, smiling.
“Somewhere, I guarantee you, somebody will ask me, ‘Is Ainsley really that sweet?’”
