A devastating murder-suicide took place on May 10, 2025, in Johnson Lake, Nebraska, just one day before the high school graduation of the Koch family’s eldest son. Authorities say Jeremy Koch, 42, is believed to have taken the lives of his wife, Bailey, 41, and their two sons, Hudson, 18, and Asher, 16, before dying by suicide.
The family was known in their community and beyond for running a Facebook page called Anchoring Hope, dedicated to supporting others facing mental health challenges. In a heartbreaking twist, Bailey had shared a post on the page just a day before the tragedy, addressing Jeremy’s ongoing struggle with suicidal thoughts.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Cozad Schools community, where Hudson was set to graduate. In response, grief counseling and support services have been made available to students, staff, and families.
Autopsies have been ordered for all four victims, and the Nebraska State Patrol is leading the ongoing investigation, with help from local law enforcement.
This tragedy has left a deep impact on all who knew the family. Our hearts go out to the Cozad and Johnson Lake communities during this incredibly difficult time.
