Paige Amelia’s Story: Living with Gigantomastia and Embracing Her Journey
29-year-old Paige Amelia, a mother from Melbourne, Australia, lives with a rare condition called gigantomastia, which causes her natural P-cup breasts to grow continuously. Despite the physical and emotional toll it takes, Paige is using her experience to raise awareness and support others going through the same struggle.
What Is Gigantomastia?
Gigantomastia is an extremely rare condition that leads to rapid and excessive breast tissue growth, often triggered by hormone changes during puberty or pregnancy. It can cause chronic back pain, skin issues, and limited mobility, and it often makes everyday tasks and clothing choices difficult.
Daily Life with a Constantly Changing Body
Paige’s breast growth began at age 25 and hasn’t slowed down since. In just over a year, her chest measurement grew from 100cm to 143cm. With growth being unpredictable — sometimes stalling, then suddenly accelerating — Paige constantly has to adjust her wardrobe.
She spends thousands of dollars annually on custom-made bras and clothes, paying around $280 AUD (about $190 USD) per bra. “The growth is sporadic,” she says. “I try to wear stretchy tops, but replacing everything gets really expensive.”
The Emotional Weight
Beyond physical pain and wardrobe challenges, Paige also deals with intense public scrutiny. From constant stares to unsolicited online messages — up to 40 a day — she often feels uncomfortable in public. “I don’t like wearing tight clothes because of the judgment I get, especially from other women,” she admits.
Despite this, Paige remains resilient. She chooses to speak out about gigantomastia to challenge stereotypes and create space for body acceptance. “I’ve just had to accept it,” she says, determined to stay strong in her truth.
A Life-Altering Option for Some
In contrast, some women with gigantomastia reach a point where surgery is the only option. One young woman, after enduring years of discomfort and no longer being able to wear a bra, underwent a breast reduction — a decision that gave her life back and greatly improved her well-being.
