Some stories are so perfectly timed, they feel like fate. For Ohio couple Scierra Blair and José Ervin, sharing the same birthday—August 18—already felt like a rare bond. But this year, something extraordinary happened that even their doctors couldn’t believe.
It all started with a simple conversation early in their relationship:
“When’s your birthday?”
“August 18,” José said.
Scierra laughed—“No way, that’s mine too.”
As their love grew, they learned they were expecting twins. It was a joyful surprise, even though twins ran in both families. The babies were due August 28, but during a check-up on August 17, doctors found one baby was breech and recommended an immediate C-section.
Then came the dilemma: it was just hours before midnight. If they waited, the babies could share their birthday too. Scierra, hungry and exhausted, wasn’t thrilled about the delay. But after some playful bargaining—“You owe me a week’s worth of potato salad,” she joked—she agreed.
And then, at 12:35 a.m. on August 18, their son José III was born. His sister Ar’ria followed one minute later. Against all odds, the entire family now shared the same birthday.
The odds? Roughly 1 in 133,000 for two parents and a child to share a birthday. Add twins, and the chance becomes almost impossible. But to Scierra and José, it wasn’t about the numbers—it was about a moment that felt meant to be.
Now, every August 18 will be a shared celebration of love, timing, and family. Whether it’s one big party or a trip by the sea, their birthday will always be a reminder: sometimes, life’s best gifts come when you least expect them—but right on time.
