Debbie Allen was driving along a busy Michigan highway when she noticed traffic slowing down — then spotted the reason: a frightened German shepherd in the middle of the road.
Tragically, one driver hit the dog and drove off without stopping. Debbie knew she couldn’t just drive by.
“I saw it limping and knew it had been hit,” she told WXYZ. Though she was on her way to meet a client, she pulled over without hesitation.
The scared dog tried to run, but Debbie chased after it, guiding it to safety on the roadside. Soon, Michigan State Police arrived, followed by animal rescue.
She stayed by the dog’s side, calming it and keeping it still until help arrived. The shepherd appeared healthy and loved — likely just recently lost — but without a microchip, finding the owner has proven difficult.
“I’m not a hero,” Debbie said. “Just a human being.”
For now, the dog is safe and recovering — and the search for its family continues.
