A heartbreaking accident on Sunday morning, July 16, has left the Cariri region in mourning. On the CE-060 highway between Caririaçu and Juazeiro do Norte, a family lost their lives when their car crashed into a deep stream near Sítio Piripiri.
The victims—three-year-old Miguel Nascimento Gomes, his mother Hérida Nascimento da Silva, and his grandfather Sebastião Cícero Gomes—were on their way from Várzea Alegre to Juazeiro do Norte for a surgery Miguel needed. A trip that should have taken just an hour ended in unthinkable tragedy.
The car lost control and plunged into waters about five meters deep. Despite rescue efforts, all three perished. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, raising concerns about road safety in the area.
What was meant to be a hopeful journey toward healing became a devastating reminder of how fragile life can be.
