The country music world is mourning the loss of beloved singer-songwriter Jesse “Tex” Harrison, who passed away at 67 in his Austin, Texas home. Known for his soulful voice and raw, heartfelt lyrics, Harrison’s music deeply touched fans for over four decades.
He was found by his longtime manager and friend, Emily Rodriguez, who shared that he had been quietly battling health issues and carrying emotional pain, especially after the death of his wife, Mary Ellen, in 2018. That loss shaped his later music, including the moving 2019 album Shadows and Sunsets, a tribute to her.
Tex rose to fame in the late ’70s with his debut Open Roads and Heartfelt Tunes, and went on to write timeless classics like “Long Way Home” and “Whiskey Lullaby.” Despite declining health, he continued performing, drawing strength from his devoted fans.
Tributes have poured in from across the music world. Fellow artist Lisa McKinney said, “His songs were like old friends—always there for you.”
A public memorial is being planned in Austin, where fans will gather to honor the man whose music was a companion through life’s highs and lows.
Though he’s gone, Jesse Harrison’s voice will live on—etched in the hearts of all who found comfort in his songs.
