During a peaceful family picnic, our son ran toward a tree, excited by the strange “patterns” on its bark. We didn’t think much of it—until my husband suddenly bolted after him in a panic.
Just as our son was about to touch the trunk, my husband pulled him back. What we thought were patterns were actually Lonomia caterpillars—incredibly venomous creatures. A single touch can cause severe internal bleeding, unconsciousness, or even death.
They blend perfectly into tree bark, making them nearly impossible to spot unless you know what to look for. Thankfully, we caught it in time. We reported it, experts removed them, and we posted a warning for other families.
Now, I carry gloves, a magnifying glass, and a first-aid kit every time I’m outdoors with the kids. Nature is beautiful—but we must respect its hidden dangers.
Please, share this with your family. A quick warning could save a life.
