On Interstate 696 in Huntington Woods, Michigan, drivers were frustrated when traffic came to a standstill. But soon they learned the reason: 13 semi-truck drivers had parked side by side under a bridge to save a life.
State Trooper Michael Shaw had received a call about a man preparing to jump. Thinking quickly, he asked truckers to line up beneath the bridge, reducing the distance of any fall. For four tense hours, negotiators spoke with the man while the trucks waited below.
In the end, the man agreed to step down and was taken for help.
Thanks to the trooper’s quick thinking and the compassion of those truck drivers, a tragedy was prevented — and faith in humanity was restored.
