Prom Night Heroes: Teens Save Family from Burning Home in Dramatic Rescue
What started as a magical night in formalwear ended in heroism and heart-pounding action — and it’s all caught on camera.
💃 From Prom Dresses to Emergency Response
On May 17, a group of high school students from Whitesboro, New York, were on their way home from junior prom when their night took an unexpected and unforgettable turn.
Dressed in suits and gowns, Aiden Kane, Morgan Randall, Donato Jellenichr, and Tyler Sodj spotted something alarming on the way to change out of their prom clothes — a garage engulfed in flames.
“We left prom early to grab appetizers at One Genny,” Aiden Kane told Observer-Dispatch.
“Then Morgan saw the fire.”
🔥 “Your House Is On Fire!”
The teens acted immediately. In dramatic footage, Kane is seen banging on the front door of the home as flames roar just steps away. Moments later, a young girl opens the door, clearly shaken.
“Your house is on fire!” Kane urgently tells her.
“I know,” she replies. “My dad’s calling the police.”
Children’s screams can be heard inside.
Kane and the others don’t wait — they spring into action to help get the family out.
“You’re okay, hey, you’re okay,” one teen reassures them.
“Just walk over here. Come here, come here!”
🚒 Seconds from Disaster
While Kane helped usher the family to safety, Donato called 911 and Tyler ran toward the flames to assess the danger. Sodj later described the terrifying sounds:
“It sounded almost like gunshots popping,” he told WKTV.
“Something clearly exploded… If Aiden didn’t get those people out, I think the fire could have spread.”
Maynard Fire Chief Jared Pearl confirmed just how critical their timing was:
“If they didn’t get everyone out and call 911, we would’ve been there 3–4 minutes later — and by then, the house would’ve been fully involved.”
👨👩👧👧 A Family Saved, A Community Inspired
The students’ actions likely saved lives. Aiden later recalled grabbing two young girls and rushing them across the street to Morgan, who comforted them as they cried.
“They were really upset,” he said. “But we didn’t think twice.”
💬 Online Reaction: “Real-Life Superheroes”
As footage of the rescue spreads online, thousands are calling the teens “real-life superheroes.” Others point out the remarkable selflessness it took for a group of teenagers — still in prom attire — to stop everything and run toward danger.
🏅 Just Kids… or Young Heroes?
In an era where social media often spotlights drama and division, this story reminds us of something else: courage, community, and character.
What these teens did wasn’t part of any school curriculum — it came from instinct, compassion, and the kind of bravery that can’t be taught.
