A heartbreaking plane crash off the coast of San Diego on June 8, 2025, took the lives of six people, including 20-something Arizona couple Landon and Torrie Baldwin. The couple, both from Safford, Arizona, leave behind two young children.
The twin-engine Cessna 414 had just departed from California, heading back to Phoenix, when the pilot, Landon Baldwin, reported issues maintaining altitude. He made several urgent “Mayday” calls and attempted to divert to a nearby naval airfield—but communication was lost moments later.
Witnesses near Point Loma described the aircraft descending sharply before crashing nose-first into the Pacific Ocean. The FAA confirmed there were no survivors.
Aviation investigators suspect spatial disorientation may have contributed to the crash. So far, no signs of mechanical failure have been found.
Also on board were a father and his three adult sons, all of whom tragically perished. Friends and family describe Landon as a dedicated pilot and loving husband and father. Torrie was remembered as joyful, kind-hearted, and full of life.
As the FAA and NTSB continue their investigation, the Safford community and beyond are mourning the devastating loss. Memorials and tributes are pouring in, honoring the lives lost and offering support to the loved ones left behind.
