A tragic Air India crash has claimed 279 lives, including nearly all 242 passengers and crew, along with several people on the ground. Incredibly, one man—40-year-old British citizen Vishwash Kumar Ramesh—walked away with only minor injuries.

Authorities say the death toll could have been even worse if not for the heroic actions of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, who managed to steer the failing aircraft away from a nearby hospital with over 3,000 patients.

Ramesh recounted his escape: “My seat and the door were broken. I saw an opening and just got out.” His calm demeanor in post-crash footage has led to online speculation, though many consider his survival nothing short of miraculous.

Ramesh’s brother, also on board, died in the crash. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited Ramesh in the hospital, offering his condolences.

With intense flames reaching up to 2,700°F, recovery teams are struggling to identify remains. DNA testing is now underway around the clock.

While questions remain, Ramesh’s survival is offering a sliver of hope amid overwhelming loss.
