Sadly, when children are born with visible differences, many are abandoned by their birth parents. That’s exactly what happened to little Vasilina — but her story took a beautiful turn.

Born with a limb difference — no left hand and just two fingers on a small appendage where her right hand should be — Vasilina was left by her biological mother, who felt unprepared to raise a child with special needs.

But love had other plans.

Chris and Elmira Knutsen, a U.S. couple already raising three children (one of whom was adopted), heard about Vasilina’s story. They didn’t see a child to pity — they saw a child who deserved a chance. Without hesitation, they began the long, difficult adoption process to bring her home.

The Knutsens were no strangers to adversity — their oldest son also lives with a physical disability. As a family, they’ve faced ignorant stares and comments from strangers, but Chris and Elmira have taught their kids to rise above it with confidence and kindness.

Today, Vasilina is thriving. She’s growing, learning, and discovering the world with joy — surrounded by love, encouragement, and acceptance.
