Latonya Pottain, known for her appearance on My 600-lb Life, has sadly passed away at just 40 years old. The Louisiana native died on May 17, with preliminary reports citing congestive heart failure as the likely cause.
Latonya’s journey on the show began in 2022, when she weighed 531 pounds and hoped to lose enough weight to walk down the aisle with her fiancé, Daune. Though she made early progress, dropping to 505 pounds, her journey was derailed by personal tragedies—losing her brother, an abusive relationship, and her father’s cancer diagnosis. The emotional toll took a deep toll on her mental health, leaving her bedridden and unable to continue treatment.
Earlier this year, Latonya revealed in a GoFundMe post that she had reached 740 pounds and could no longer be transported to a hospital safely. “I’m completely bedridden,” she wrote. “I worked so hard, but the backlash after the show and everything that followed just broke me.”
Latonya is the 18th person from the show to have died since its debut. Her story is a heartbreaking reminder of how complex and painful the struggle with weight can be—and how critical compassion and support are for those facing it.
