Loren Schauers, a 19-year-old from Montana, faced a horrifying accident in 2019 when he drove a forklift off a bridge and was crushed beneath it. The machine pinned and severely injured his lower body and one arm.
To save his life, doctors performed a rare and extreme surgery called a hemicorporectomy — removing his body from the waist down, including his pelvis and genitals. His crushed arm was also partially amputated.
Loren has been open about his recovery, sharing his story with the world alongside his wife, Sabia, on their YouTube channel. He explains how he now uses colostomy and nephrectomy bags to handle bathroom needs.
In Q&A videos, Loren reflects on how some friendships changed after the accident — with a few friends pulling away, but others stepping up. “I got Sabia, that’s all I need,” he said.
Loren also recalled the moment of the accident, saying he was conscious the entire time. He even shared photos from the scene, including one where he’s visibly pinned under the forklift.
Despite the trauma, Loren continues to share his life openly, inspiring others with resilience and honesty.
