Cats are famously independent, but they still need care—especially when their humans can’t provide it. That’s what happened to Hidey, a long-haired cat whose elderly owner, suffering from Alzheimer’s, was no longer able to groom her.
By the time rescuers found Hidey, her fur was so matted and overgrown it looked like she had dreadlocks—some over 8 inches long. She had likely gone without grooming for years.
Veterinarian Jenn Levitzki from the Pittsburgh Animal Rescue League gently sedated Hidey before shaving off pounds of matted fur. “Hidey has the worst matting I have ever seen,” Levitzki shared.
Thankfully, Hidey recovered well and was adopted by a relative of her former owner. She’s now safe, clean, and loved.
