Natalie Black, a rising star in track and field, died suddenly at just 19 years old—after taking a nap following a successful competition. A sophomore at Belhaven University, Natalie had just set a new personal record in the triple jump, reaching 11.01 meters and earning second place.
“She about knocked me over celebrating,” said her coach, Tytavia Hardy. Her dad recalled her telling him, “I’m going to make you proud,” and she did just that.
Later that day, full of joy and still celebrating with family, Natalie laid down on the couch for a nap—and never woke up. “There was no suffering,” her father said. “He gave us that much Grace.”
Her sudden passing has left her teammates, coaches, and family heartbroken. A candlelit vigil was held at Belhaven’s track, where loved ones shared memories and walked a lap in her honor.
Natalie’s legacy as a talented, passionate, and joyful young athlete will live on. Her cause of death has not yet been released.
