What began as a routine traffic stop in Nashville quickly spiraled into a deadly confrontation that left one woman dead and a police officer badly injured.

Officer Josh Baker pulled over a black Camaro linked to wanted felon Demond Buchanan, only to find 31-year-old Nika Holbert behind the wheel. At first, she seemed calm, but when Baker discovered a suspicious substance in her purse and tried to arrest her, the situation escalated.

Holbert resisted, shouting that she’d done nothing wrong, before slipping back into the driver’s seat. Baker attempted to stop her with a Taser, but it failed. Moments later, Holbert pulled a gun and shot him below his vest. Though gravely wounded, Baker returned fire as she sped away. She crashed just a block later and died shortly after at the hospital.

Baker survived after surgery and is expected to recover. Police released the bodycam footage for transparency, showing how quickly the stop descended into chaos.

Holbert’s adoptive mother admitted her daughter was wrong to draw a gun but voiced sorrow over the tragic outcome.
