What seemed like a breakthrough in the search for a missing 8-year-old camper has only deepened the mystery.
Searchers thought they’d found hope when a bun of blonde hair was discovered tangled in branches by the riverbank, matching the style the little girl wore the night she disappeared. But DNA testing revealed the hair wasn’t hers — it belonged to her best friend, one of the children already found safe.
The twist has shaken investigators and fueled troubling questions. Did the friend return to the river after being found? Was the missing girl carrying her friend’s hair as a keepsake? Or worse, was it placed there on purpose to throw searchers off?
“We thought we were about to bring her home,” one volunteer admitted. “Now we don’t know what to believe.”
Instead of answers, the discovery has left families and search crews with more questions — and a growing fear that someone at Camp Mystic may be hiding the truth.
